Summary
A satirical commercial ridiculing attempts by Queensland mining companies to replace union safety inspectors with their own, thereby increasing the risk of mining accidents. Set in Queensland Premier Campbell Newman’s office, a mining magnate attempts to convince a skeptical Premier of the need to do away with union safety inspectors, to which the actor playing Campbell Newman raises the possibility of a Pike River type disaster. The scene ends with the mining magnate sitting next to his proposed safety inspector, revealing a character dressed as the grim reaper.
Special Notes/Achievements
Manic Studios was established for the trade union movement with the goal of producing satirical films and videos for union campaigns. Charles Firth, an Australian comedian and member of the famed The Chaser satirical comedy show, was the company’s creative director.
