Masterclass Webinar – Strategic use of PINs

Resource Library

How to use PINs strategically, draft them well, and support HSRs when employers and regulators push back.

This session is aimed at Union to help them in their capacity supporting HSRs.

Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) are one of the strongest enforcement tools HSRs and Unions have, but they are often under-used, challenged by employers and not upheld by Regulators. This webinar is designed to strengthen capability in the use of PINs by providing a clear overview of the legislative framework, when a PIN is an appropriate escalation, and the key considerations involved in drafting a compliant notice. You will also gain insight into what may occur if a PIN is reviewed or challenged, as well as an Affiliate case study and Q&A to support application of the material to real workplace situations.

This session will cover:
Jurisdictional differences & legal framework – Claire King (ACTU)
Strategic pathways before a PIN – Jen Fitzgerald (CPSU)
Structuring PINs for maximum enforceability – Veronica Black (NSWNMA)
Case study – Dan Murphy (UFU)
Facilitated by Kirsty Pepper

This was recorded at the Master Class meeting held via Zoom on 11 Dec 2025
