Summary
Conference video presentation of highlights, including MUA Here To Stay, the many faces of the union movement, for Vietnamese workers, and Asian Women at Work. The speakers explain how the Howard Government “belted” the unions, through loopholes in the Navigation Act, which caused damage to Australia’s coastal shipping. They argue that their job is to explain the role of the unions to the people and build a united front with world unions. Australian politics of Howard were becoming identical to the politics of Bush in America. They believe maritime security has been compromised, and warn how 911 has victimised seafarers.
