Summary
A video extract from the Feb 2008 5th Anniversary Conference of East Timor Maritime and Transport Union. East Timor is sitting on billions of dollars-worth of oil reserves. Companies around the world tend to strip all resources while they are available and leave nothing behind. Their union was a slow start and rough, but, with the assistance of Australian unions, they have now 400 members. But they still have a long way to go. Their aim is to find what needs to be done to create jobs for Timorese workers and seafarers. One idea was to find employment and training for Timorese workers and give them training on the docks of NZ if they can.
