This one‑hour, on‑demand course provides a practical introduction to privacy in Australian organisational settings, with a focus on the responsibilities and risks relevant to trade union work.

Participants will gain an overview of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including key concepts such as personal information, sensitive information and regulated entities. The course explores the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and what they mean for day‑to‑day practices when working with member, worker and workplace information.

The course also covers how to identify and respond to an eligible data breach under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme, including notification requirements and practical examples of effective incident handling.

Learners will develop an understanding of both organisational and individual responsibilities, common privacy risks, and practical strategies to safeguard personal information in line with Australian legal and professional expectations.
