Summary
This is a collection of interviews critical of the New South Wales Government’s 2012 Local Schools Local Decisions legislation, which the NSW Teachers Federation argues is a strategy to reduce public services and restructure the Department of Education. Union leaders and teachers are of the view that the NSW Treasury will directly control staff budgeting, which will lead to lower pay for education workers. It is argued a global accounting company was engaged by the government to dismantle the system, which may overturn industrial agreements and awards in the public sector. Under this system, it is feared that the school principle will become a business manager, permanent teaching positions will be lost and the quality of students’ learning will be compromised.
