This foundational course is aimed at new Organisers (with approximately one years’ experience in the field) with a focus on building knowledge and practical skills.
You will learn about the essential steps in organising a workplace, including planning, mapping and analysis, the structured organising conversation and objection handling. We’ll also consider the values and purpose of unionism and learn how to critically assess interests and power.
You’ll also learn how to assess and develop workplace leaders, run effective meetings and build power in the workplace. Six weeks after completion of the course, there will be a recall session via Zoom to monitor your progress and share stories.
Outcomes
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Articulate and discuss the values and purpose of unionism
- Critically assess interests and power at the workplace level
- Converse about power at the industry, national and international levels
- Undertake the steps needed to organise a workplace and conduct effective and strategic mapping and analysis
- Describe and demonstrate the steps in a structured organising conversation
- Make use of strategies for effective objection handling
- Identify and analyse key issues around which to organise
