About
The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS) is a nationally accredited program providing you with a WHS tool kit governed by a proactive and preventative approach to workplace health and safety from a union perspective.
You will gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively collaborate at the workplace on the development and implementation of WHS policies and procedures, risk management and compliance with the legal framework.
Through this course you will gain a formal qualification (National Certification BSB41419) that will equip you for specialist roles in work health and safety.
Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Describe the union approach to work health and safety
- Explore the link between organising and health and safety structures and effective issue resolution
- Explain the components of the health and safety legislative framework
- Provide advice on how to comply with health and safety laws
- Confidently contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of WHS policies and procedures in the workplace
- Respond effectively to WHS incidents in the workplace

Delivery Style
This course is delivered in a hybrid format. Participants may attend sessions either in person in Melbourne or online, and can alternate between delivery modes across the course. Sessions include presentations, facilitated discussion, case studies and interactive activities to apply skills and knowledge.
Assessment requirements will be explained, with structured time provided to commence assessments and collaborate on course work required to attain the qualification.
Prerequisite
None.
Work Health and Safety: Foundations and Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Entry Permit Holder training recommended.
Course Enrolment
Registering your interest is the first step in the enrolment process and is subject to union approval.
Once approved, participants will be contacted to complete the required forms to finalise enrolment. This is a nationally recognised VET qualification.
Online sessions are delivered in AEST/AEDT. Individual 30‑minute meetings will be scheduled with participants on the dates listed.
