This one-day AI for Unionists course is designed for union leaders, organisers and industrial staff who want practical AI literacy grounded in union values. Participants explore core AI concepts and apply them to real workplace contexts to assess the risks and opportunities AI creates for jobs, conditions, rights, fairness, and worker agency.
The course equips participants to articulate a union vision for AI, develop proactive strategies for engagement and bargaining, and collaborate with colleagues to use AI and influence AI adoption so it aligns with union values and protects members’ interests.
Outcomes
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
- Identify and articulate union values, vision, and purpose in the context of artificial intelligence and digital change at work.
- Demonstrate a foundational understanding of AI concepts and discuss their relevance to union members and workplaces.
- Critically analyse the risks and opportunities that AI presents for workers, including impacts on job roles, conditions, and workplace rights.
- Develop strategies for unions to proactively engage with AI technologies to ensure positive outcomes for workers.
- Collaborate effectively with union colleagues, IT staff, and stakeholders to shape and influence the adoption of AI in ways that align with union values and protect members’ interests.
